A tour's hours count from your pickup, and inside them you stop wherever and for as long as you like. Cruise days start at the terminal, and you're back at the pier at least 60 minutes before all-aboard.

Sunrise followed by a hike on PR1, Vereda do Areeiro, has no separate price. The PR1 drop and collect in the next table can start with a drop before dawn once IFCN reopens the crossing.

Hiking transfers, price per car

Your driver drops you about 20 minutes before your SIMplifica slot. On a drop and collect, your driver also meets you at the end of the trail and takes you back to your hotel. You pay the trail fee, €4.50 on most routes, when you book the slot.

When we checked on 25 September 2026, IFCN listed the PR1 crossing from Pedra Rija to Pico Ruivo as closed. While it is closed, the Pico do Arieiro drop and collect covers the walk along PR1 to Pedra Rija and back.

Waiting, stops and supplements

One stop of up to 10 minutes on a transfer is included, and each further stop of up to 15 minutes costs €10. Waiting costs extra only after the free time, which is 60 minutes from your actual landing at the airport, 30 at the cruise terminal and 15 at a hotel.

The pickup supplements apply to your own route, tours and most hiking transfers when we collect you outside Funchal, Caniço, Santa Cruz, Machico, Câmara de Lobos and Ribeira Brava.

The rules behind every price

What's in the price

The price is for the whole car and includes fuel, parking and child seats, and on your own route and tours also waiting at your stops, with no kilometre count.

Night pickups

Pickups between 21:00 and 07:00 cost 15% more on transfers and on your own route, while sunrise runs and hiking transfers cost the same at any hour.

Public holidays

On 25 December and 1 January prices are 15% higher all day.

Waiting at hotels and the terminal

At a hotel or address we wait 15 minutes free, at the cruise terminal 30 minutes after the agreed time, and after that it's €5 per started 15 minutes.

Child seats

Child seats are free, so tell us each child's age when you book and we fit the right seat.

Payment

Once we confirm your date, we send a secure Revolut payment link for the full price, to pay within 24 hours by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Revolut Pay, with no card fee, and we email you an invoice.

Cancellation

You can cancel free up to 24 hours before pickup, with a full refund, and after that, or if you don't come, we keep 50% of the price.

Pickup area for your own route, tours and hiking

Your own route, tours and hiking transfers include pickup anywhere from Ribeira Brava to Caniçal, including Funchal and the hills above it, and a pickup further out adds the fixed amount shown for your area.

What a metered taxi costs in 2026

2026 meter

The current taxi tariff has been in force since 6 February 2026, so older figures online are out of date. Flag fall is €4 by day and €4.80 at night, then the meter adds about €1.54 a kilometre by day and €1.92 at night. The night rate covers 21:00–06:00, and all of Saturday, Sunday and public holidays. A 6- or 8-seat taxi costs 20% more, and each suitcase adds €1.50. Tarifa P, the hourly taxi rate, is €25 an hour. The fares below are our estimates from that tariff and the road distance from Madeira airport.

For short runs east of the airport, to Caniço, Santa Cruz, Machico or Santana, a taxi from the rank usually costs less than our price. That holds for 1 to 4 people on a weekday and at night. On those runs, what you pay for is a driver waiting in the arrivals hall and a price fixed before you land. For Funchal and the longer runs in this table, the fixed price is lower in every column, and the gap grows at night, at weekends and with 5 or 6 people.

How much is a taxi from Madeira airport to Funchal?

A taxi from Madeira airport to Funchal costs about €32 by day and €39 at night or at weekends on the 2026 meter, plus €1.50 a suitcase. With a tour booked, our car costs €30 for 1 to 4 people and €40 for 5 or 6, plus 15% for a pickup between 21:00 and 07:00. The bus and Bolt are in the airport to Funchal comparison.

Are taxis expensive in Madeira?

Short taxi rides in Madeira are cheap and long ones get expensive, because the 2026 meter starts at €4 by day and adds about €1.54 a kilometre. From the airport to Porto Moniz the day meter comes to about €104. For short runs east of the airport, such as Caniço, a taxi from the rank is usually the cheaper choice.

How much is a 40-minute ride?

For guests on one of our tours, our prices from Madeira airport go by area, and the 40-minute ride to Ponta do Sol, in the Calheta area, costs €65 for the car, for 1 to 6 people. The same price covers Calheta, about 50 minutes away, where the 2026 meter comes to about €79 by day and €98 at night or at weekends. To Ponta do Sol the day meter comes close to our price, and the fixed price is lower at night, at weekends or with 5 or 6 people.

Is the price per person or per car?

Every fixed price on this page is per car, not per person, and covers everyone in it. Most rides have one price for 1 to 4 people and a second for 5 or 6, and the car takes up to 6 passengers.

Is there a night surcharge?

Pickups between 21:00 and 07:00 cost 15% more on transfers and on your own route, while sunrise runs and hiking transfers cost the same at any hour. On 25 December and 1 January prices are 15% higher all day. There is no weekend supplement on our prices, while the taxi meter's night rate covers 21:00–06:00, and all of Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.

Do bags cost extra?

Tell us what bags you're bringing and we confirm they fit before you book. On the taxi meter, each suitcase adds €1.50.

Can I pay by card?

Yes: Once we confirm your date, we send a secure Revolut payment link for the full price, to pay within 24 hours by card, Apple Pay, Google Pay or Revolut Pay, with no card fee, and we email you an invoice. The full payment terms are in the booking terms.

Is a tip expected?

A tip is never added to the price for the car, and whether you leave one is up to you.
